An avid 80s film enthusiast with a love for comedy, drama, thrillers, and sci-fi, award-winning international filmmaker Jason Bourque has written, directed, and produced more than 80 features, TV movies, series, and documentaries.
Jason co-wrote and co-directed the groundbreaking theatrical documentary "Shadow Company," narrated by Gerard Butler. This in-depth exploration of the global mercenary industry was a festival favorite (SXSW, Hot Docs), earned positive reviews in The New York Times and Variety, and has been used as an educational resource for the US Senate. He also co-directed "Darwin's Brave New World" for CBC and ABC Australia, an award-winning docudrama series filmed across five countries. His latest feature documentary, "Music For Mandela," shot throughout South Africa, won the People's Choice Award at the Amnesty International Film Festival.
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Jason is a prolific genre screenwriter with 35 produced scripts and several high-profile projects lined up for 2026, including the action-comedy "Sixteen," supernatural horror "Ivy," and comedy-drama "Widows Club." He worked as story editor and writer for two episodes of the high-octane thriller series "Insomnia" on Amazon Prime.
Jason's theatrical feature "Black Fly" (writer/director) premiered at VIFF, earning nominations for Best Canadian Film and 10 Leo Awards, winning Best Male Lead Actor. It also won Best Feature at the Arizona Underground Film Festival. His latest award-winning feature "Drone," starring Emmy winner Sean Bean, achieved indie success with a US theatrical release and ranked #1 Indie and #2 thriller on iTunes. Recent projects include "Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper!" (highest-rated Hallmark movie of 2025), "Game Of Love" (2024 Leo Award for Best Director), "A World Record Christmas" (2024 Christopher Award for the Highest Values of the Human Spirit), and "My Favorite Christmas Tree" (#2 on Netflix). His recent sci-fi work includes two episodes of the acclaimed series "Medinah" (34 Telly Awards), filmed in Qatar. Jason produced the romantic comedy "The Right One" through Lionsgate Entertainment and executive produced "Mercy" for Paramount+. He also produced the award-winning theatrical drama "When Time Got Louder." Most recently, Jason executive produced and co-wrote the sci-fi horror feature "Night Comes," scheduled for release in 2026.
