Vera Chok is a multi-talented writer, actress, singer, artist, and language enthusiast.
Of Chinese heritage, Chok was born in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, where she attended Asaunta missionary school before relocating to the United Kingdom as a teenager. She completed her secondary education at Abbots Bromley School in Staffordshire, England, and later earned an MA in Archaeology & Anthropology from Queens College, Oxford.
Embracing her artistic passions, Chok trained in acting at the Poor School in London and Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Paris. Her pursuit of knowledge continued with an MA in Writing at the University of East London, which she began in October 2013.
Chok’s acting career spans theatre, television, radio, and film, featuring roles in independent projects, major TV dramas, one-woman shows, and acclaimed productions such as Lucy Kirkwood’s "Chimerica" at the Almeida and Harold Pinter theatres in 2013. In 2010, she founded saltpeter, an independent theatre company, where she has produced and co-produced several successful shows.
Beyond acting, Chok engages in music and writing. She is the lead vocalist for the band FRIENDS OF FRIENDS (FOF), who released their debut single, "Your Sappy Song," in March 2014. In 2011, she established The Brautigan Book Club, an international creative community inspired by the works of American Beat writer Richard Brautigan, fostering artistic exploration. Her poetry-inspired writing has been published by Ether Press, Brautigan Free Press, and The Rising.
