Biografia
Pamela Abdy, President of MGM’s Motion Picture Group, is a seasoned producer and film executive responsible for overseeing the development, production, and post-production of all MGM and Orion films.
Previously, Abdy was a Partner and Head of Film at Makeready, where she led the creative team and managed all aspects of feature development, production, and post-production. During her tenure, Makeready financed and produced Queen & Slim, directed by Melina Matsoukas and written by Lena Waithe, as well as A Million Little Pieces, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
From 2013 to 2016, Abdy served as President of Production at New Regency. Under her leadership, New Regency released acclaimed films including Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Academy Award®-winning Birdman, David Fincher’s Gone Girl, Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, Adam McKay’s Academy Award®-winning The Big Short, Justin Kurzel’s Assassin’s Creed, and Gore Verbinski’s Cure For Wellness. She also oversaw the release of Iñárritu’s The Revenant in 2016, which earned twelve Academy Award® nominations including Best Picture and won Golden Globes for Best Picture (Drama) and Best Actor.
Before joining New Regency, Abdy was President of Scott Stuber’s Bluegrass Films, where she acquired, developed, and produced a variety of films such as 47 Ronin, Identity Thief, Kill the Messenger, and Endless Love.
Abdy’s earlier experience includes serving as Executive Vice President at Paramount Pictures, overseeing the development and production of numerous films including Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island; The Love Guru starring Mike Myers; Kimberly Peirce’s Stop-Loss; Judd Apatow-produced Drillbit Taylor; Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center; Karyn Kusama’s Aeon Flux; Richard LaGravenese’s Freedom Writers; Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Golden Globe-winning Babel; and Mark Waters’ Mean Girls.
She began her career as an intern at Jersey Films through the Emerson College internship program, initially hired as a receptionist before becoming Danny DeVito’s assistant. Rising through the ranks, she eventually became president of the company, during which time she associate produced Man on the Moon, co-produced Caveman’s Valentine, executive produced How High, and produced Garden State, which received an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature and a Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, TV, or other media.
Abdy is a member of the Producers Guild of America and serves on the Executive Board of the Executive Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Additionally, she is a board member of the Los Angeles Dance Project, founded by choreographer Benjamin Millepied.
