Biografia
Ryan is a British-German actor trained at Drama Centre London, known for his roles in the Netflix series The Queen's Gambit (2020) directed by Scott Frank, Maxton Hall: The World Between Us (2024) on Prime Video, the Netflix series How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) (2019), Was wir fürchten (2023), How to Tatort (2020) opposite Dar Salim, and Spencer (2021) starring Kristen Stewart, directed by Pablo Larraín.
He has an extensive career in German television, appearing in guest and episode lead roles on Notruf Hafenkante (2007), Rookies (2020), and Großstadtrevier (1986). He was also part of the original cast of the German TV sketch comedy Die unwahrscheinlichen Ereignisse im Leben von ... (2014).
Ryan’s career began in British theatre, performing Shakespeare, including the role of The Fool in King Lear in London. His stage work spans Shakespeare, Ibsen, Brecht, and Chekhov, as well as modern political dramas and satires. He has appeared in numerous productions at the award-winning Arcola Theatre London, such as the acclaimed comedy Clarion, which received four-star reviews from The Guardian, The Times, and the Evening Standard.
In 2018, he joined the ensemble of the Berlin-based theatre sitcom Gutes Wedding, Schlechtes Wedding. Since 2021, he has been writing, directing, and regularly performing in the show.
Ryan’s passion for the stage remains central to his work, and he continues to return to live theatre.
As a writer, Ryan has co-created several short films, including the satire The Water Sommelier (2021), which he co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in. The film has won multiple awards, including Best Comedy at the Oakland Short Film Festival, USA.
