Vanessa Merrell was born on August 6, 1996, in Kansas City, Missouri. At age 16, she relocated to Los Angeles, California. She has an identical twin sister, Veronica Merrell, who is also an actress, musician, singer, and songwriter. Together, they are known as the Merrell Twins and operate three YouTube channels: "Merrell Twins," "Roni and Nessa," and "Merrell Twins Live."
Vanessa is recognized for her roles on the CW Network's Jane the Virgin (2014–2016), MTV's Faking It (2015), the films The Standoff (2016), Like A Boss (2020), Switched (2020), and various video projects on Awesomeness TV's YouTube channel. The Merrell Twins' main YouTube channel has over 5.1 million subscribers and more than 1 billion views. Their content includes a mix of comedy and music, featuring original sketches, music videos, popular song covers, humorous songs, and challenge videos.
The Merrell Twins earned a Shorty Award for YouNower of the Year in 2016 and were nominated again in 2019 for Best YouTube Ensemble. They won two Streamy Awards: Best Live Show in 2016 and Lifestyle in 2018. Their accolades also include Teen Choice Award nominations for Choice Female Web Star in 2017, Choice YouTuber and Choice Female Web Star in 2018, and Choice YouTuber in 2019. Additionally, they received a nomination for Favorite Female Social Star at the 2020 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
