Roger S. Christiansen is a director with extensive experience in both multi-camera and single-camera sitcom productions. Known for his friendly demeanor and ability to collaborate effectively with actors of all ages, Roger has directed numerous successful series such as Friends and Hannah Montana. He has worked with notable actors including Jennifer Aniston, Miley Cyrus, Miranda Cosgrove, Brooke Shields, Christina Applegate, Courteney Cox, Eric Idle, Vicki Lawrence, Dolly Parton, Kiki Palmer, Larry David, and Ray Romano.
Roger has built a strong reputation as a leading director in Tween Comedy, with recent credits including Haunted Hathaways, Dog With A Blog, Instant Mom, Shake It Up, Austin & Ally, and How To Rock. His other tween cable show directing credits include iCarly, Imagination Movers, Drake and Josh, Zoey 101, True Jackson VP, and Corey In The House. His expertise in managing tight production and shooting schedules has also led him to direct episodes of network sitcoms such as Friends, Suddenly Susan, Girlfriends, and For Your Love.
With a keen creative vision that brings producers' and writers' ideas to life, Roger earned an Emmy Award for his work on Friends and received an Outstanding Director nomination from BET for Girlfriends. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America.
Throughout his career, Roger has directed network television series for Disney, Nickelodeon, NBC, and CW, while also sharing his knowledge by teaching and lecturing at film schools worldwide. His teaching engagements include the DeTao Masters Academy in Shanghai, the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Columbia University Film Division, Tokyo University of Technology, the School of Film and Television in Cuba, and as a Fulbright Scholar at Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan.
Roger serves on the Board of Trustees for the Tony Award-winning Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut. He has consulted in Malaysia and China to help establish premier film and television schools and is a Master Director and Teacher with the DeTao Masters Academy in Shanghai. There, he develops, writes, and produces television series in Beijing and Shanghai and lectures at prestigious Chinese universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Fudan University. He is based at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts during his time in China.
Recently, Roger was invited by Sangli TV Company and the Taiwan Council of Cultural Affairs to guest lecture on his career in film, television, and theater as part of a year-long government-sponsored program bringing prominent artists to share their expertise. His goal is to leverage his extensive experience to collaborate with Chinese writers, directors, actors, producers, and students, fostering a cultural and industry bridge between the United States and China.
