Robert Michael Morris began his Hollywood career in 2005. He is best known for his role as Mickey in the short-lived yet critically praised series 'The Comeback' alongside Lisa Kudrow. He also portrayed Will Arnett's nanny on Fox's 'Running Wilde.' His notable guest appearances include roles on 'Will & Grace,' 'Arrested Development,' 'How I Met Your Mother,' 'Community Service,' 'The Class,' 'Brothers & Sisters,' 'Warren the Ape,' and 'Two Broke Girls.' More recently, he originated the role of Truman DuBois in 'Lez Be Friends.'
Morris's journey to Hollywood was unconventional. Born and raised in Kentucky, he joined the religious order The Society of Mary, earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and art from the University of Dayton, and obtained an MFA in playwriting from the Catholic University of America, where he was awarded a Shubert Fellowship in Playwriting. He toured the U.S. twice with a classical theatre group performing plays such as 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' 'The Bacchae,' 'Taming of the Shrew,' 'The Miser,' and 'The Trial.' Additionally, he taught high school in Pittsburgh, Memphis, Toronto, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., Downey, and San Gabriel, California, and college courses in Erie, Pennsylvania, and Urbana, Ohio.
Throughout his career, Morris participated in summer stock theatre (Kenley Players, Apple Hill Playhouse), musical theatre (Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera), community and academic theatre (Erie, PA, Washington, D.C.), television (Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., New York, Los Angeles), and film (Washington, D.C., New York, Los Angeles). To support himself, he worked as a party decorator in New York City, a file clerk at Radio City Music Hall, stage manager of Broadway's 'Cloud Nine,' and secretary to the esteemed producer Sydney Glazier. Throughout this time, he wrote over 91 plays, many of which have been produced and received awards. He writes across genres, enjoying both comedies and dramas. His recent works explore diverse topics including a pedophile, a musical about Sarah Bernhardt, dreams of Sal Mineo, Michelangelo’s creation of David, the Chapel of the Holy Rosary in Venice by Matisse, the 1981 murder of a transsexual in New York, and two one-woman shows about Anna Magnani and Alice Roosevelt Longworth. He recently earned an award for his 10-minute play 'Blood from a Stone,' which centers on a former Nazi camp guard and his daughter. To date, he has written more than 90 plays, 14 of which appear in 'Anthology 1: Plays from the Mind of Robert Michael Morris,' published by Incarnate Word Press; three additional anthologies and his memoir, 'I Had Breakfast with Yakima Canute,' are forthcoming.
