Kelly-Ruth Mercier, a Maritimer from Halifax, NS, comes from Eastern Canadian and Quebecois roots. She earned a BA in Acting from Dalhousie University and an MFA in Directing from the University of British Columbia. K-R has experience across theatre, film, television, and music, seamlessly blending fiction and documentary, and moving fluidly between comedy and drama. She is a highly sought-after instructor and acting coach, working as an actor, director, producer, writer, and also has expertise as a visual effects producer. Kelly-Ruth has received the MPPIA Award, the Director's Guild of Canada (BC) Kickstart Award, and support from BC Film, the Nova Scotia Arts Council, and the National Film Board (FAP). She is a graduate of the esteemed Women in the Director's Chair Program and the CTV/CWWA Career Advancement Module. Her films have earned numerous Leo Award nominations, have been showcased internationally, and aired on CBC. She is frequently invited to serve on juries for the Leos, the Geminis, and WIDC. In 1990, at just 22, she founded the Provincial Drama Academy at the Stephenville Festival in Newfoundland, and has since taught classes and workshops nationwide for professional schools, unions, associations, colleges, and universities.
