Biografia
Alexander Eik is a Norwegian film and TV series creator, director, screenwriter, and executive producer, recognized with an International Emmy© Award. He is a partner and development executive at Cinenord, a prominent film production company in Norway and Scandinavia. Since 2023, he has been residing in Los Angeles.
Trained in fine arts, Eik began making short films in 1996 and received the Norwegian National Film Award "Amanda" for Best Short Film in 2001. From 1998 to 2004, he directed TV commercials. Since 2003, he has directed five feature films and two TV series. Eik has extensive experience as a script supervisor on various feature films and has written five screenplays for films and TV series directed by others.
Eik’s 2001 short film "The Art Of Seeing" (aka "Første akt") won the Amanda Award for Best Short Film.
His feature film debut in 2003, "The Woman of My Life" (aka "Kvinnen I mitt liv"), was a significant box office success. The DVD set a record for Norwegian feature film sales among adult audiences and has since become a Christmas classic on national television.
In 2006, he directed the comedy "Cold Feet" (aka "Kalde Føtter"), co-produced by Nordisk Film and You Are Here. The film was named Variety’s Critics Choice at the 2007 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
That same year, Eik’s music video "High On The Crime" for the rock band Turbonegro was MTV Pick of the Week and received an award at the MTV European Music Awards.
In 2007, he directed the crime mini-series "The Night Sister" (aka "Nattsøsteren") for Nordisk Film, which was pre-sold to broadcasters in Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway's NRK.
In 2008, Eik directed two Nordic Noir feature films—"Buried Dogs" (aka "Begravde Hunder") and "The Woman In The Fridge" (aka "Kvinnen i kjøleskapet")—featuring Norwegian crime character Varg Veum, co-produced by Misofilm and SF Norge. Both films were pre-sold to Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
In 2009, he directed the Nordic Noir mini-series "The Orchestra Grave" (aka "Orkestergraven") for Nordisk Film, pre-sold to channels in Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and NRK.
In 2010, Eik worked as script editor on "Varg Veum II," a series of six feature-length films based on Gunnar Staalesen’s books about private investigator Varg Veum.
In 2011, he directed his third Varg Veum film, "In the Dark, All Wolves Are Grey" (aka "I mørket er alle ulver grå"), which earned the Norwegian Film Distributors' Association’s "DVD Release of the Year" award.
Between 2012 and 2016, Eik wrote screenplays for three films and a TV series within the Norwegian "Karsten & Petra" (aka "Casper & Emma") franchise, one of the most popular series on NRK’s streaming platform. The series enjoys wide international distribution and has won numerous awards at global film festivals.
Since 2016, Eik has been developing new TV drama series for Cinenord. The first release, which he executive produced, was the 2019 crime thriller "Wisting," starring Carrie-Ann Moss ("The Matrix") and Sven Nordin ("Lillyhammer," "Valkyrien"). It was the first Norwegian show acquired by BBC Four, receiving strong viewership and critical acclaim. Season 5 is in production, slated for release in 2025.
In 2020, Eik created, co-wrote, and directed the WWII drama series "Atlantic Crossing," starring Sofia Helin ("The Bridge") and Kyle MacLachlan ("Twin Peaks," "Desperate Housewives") as President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Released in October 2020, the series competed at the Cannes International Series Festival (Canneseries) and was sold to over 80 countries. It won the International Emmy© Award for Best TV Movie/Mini-Series and The Jury's Special Prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards in 2021.
