Patrick holds a Bachelor's degree in French Studies from the University of Montreal. He taught literature, film, and theater for several years at Cégep de Drummondville. In 1994, he published his first horror novel, 5150, rue des Ormes. His debut play, The Adventures of Inspector Hector, premiered at Montreal's Théâtre Licorne in 1997. His third novel, Sur le seuil (Alire, 1998), received critical acclaim and inspired a feature film directed by Eric Tessier, starring Michel Côté and Patrick Huard. Following Aliss (Alire, 2000), which won the 2001 Prix Boréal, he released the psychological thriller Seven Days of Retaliation (Alire, 2002). Editions Alire reissued his first two novels, 5150, rue des Ormes and Le passager, in 2001 and 2003. His sixth novel, Oniria (Alire, 2004), is a blend of fantasy and horror thriller. He also wrote the seventh episode of La chambre No. 13, directed by Eric Tessier, which aired on Radio-Canada on May 15, 2006. After three years of work, he published Vide, his first large-format novel with Alire in February 2007, which became his most publicized release and a bestseller for several weeks. He followed up with another thriller, Hell.com (Alire, 2009), solidifying his status as a popular author. Wanting to share his storytelling with his children, he published his first young adult novel, September as Setter (Éditions Alire, 2007), which is being adapted into a film (scheduled for July 10, 2011). In 2010, he released a second children's novel, Mrs. Wenham, also through Éditions Alire. His latest novel, Against God (Hits Head, 2010), became available in Quebec bookstores in November 2010 and in French-speaking Europe in January 2011. In an interview, Patrick Senécal revealed that he wrote a series titled Malphas, consisting of short stories set in a college; the first volume, The Case of Predator Traps, was scheduled for release on November 3, 2011, by Éditions Alire. Several of Hallman's novels have been adapted for the screen: On the Threshold, 5150, rue des Ormes, and Seven Days of Retaliation have all been made into films. 5150 Elm Street was released in theaters on October 9, 2009, followed by Seven Days of Retaliation on February 5, 2010. Daniel Roby is slated to direct Hell.com in the coming years. The author also scripted the web series Red Queen, which premiered in spring 2011. Supported by Olivier Sabino and Daniel Grou (The Seven Days of Retaliation, 10½), Hallman created the series starring Michelle Beaulieu (lead actress of 5150, rue des Ormes and Aliss), chronicling her journey from adolescence to becoming the powerful queen of Wonderland, events recounted in the novel Aliss. The first eight ten-minute episodes of the season were released on DVD in March 2012.
