Biografia
Joel is renowned for his portrayals of Peter Allen in "Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door" and Charles Bean in "Deadline Gallipoli." Raised in rural North Western Australia, Joel aspired to become a rock star and tour globally. Before turning 17, he supported acts such as Birds of Tokyo, Ian Moss, The Beautiful Girls, Diesel, Regurgitator, and Daryl Braithwaite. His original music was featured on ABC National Radio. Additionally, he represented Western Australia in soccer and trained for the Western Australian Football League.
Joel surprised himself by moving to Brazil for a year as a Rotary International Exchange Student, where he toured with local bands, learned Portuguese, and immersed himself in the culture. Upon returning to Karratha, inspired by a deep passion for storytelling and life, Joel's mother encouraged him to audition for NIDA and WAAPA. Despite never having read a play before, he was accepted into both and chose NIDA, leaving North West Australia as the region's 2010 Young Australian of the Year.
Graduating from NIDA in 2013, Joel landed the role of Charles Bean in Foxtel's "Deadline Gallipoli" in 2014, starring alongside Sam Worthington, Hugh Dancy, Charles Dance, Rachel Griffiths, Anna Torv, Jessica De Gouw, and Ewen Leslie. The series, commemorating the Gallipoli landing centenary, aired in 2015 to critical acclaim and received eight AACTA nominations, including Best Actor for Joel. Early in 2015, he also starred as Peter Allen in Channel 7’s biopic miniseries "Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door," which earned ten AACTA nominations, including Best Actor for Joel’s performance.
Joel continues to pursue compelling stories with talented and dedicated film and TV collaborators. He is a proud ambassador for Redkite, a charity supporting families affected by youth cancer, and recently raised over $800,000 single-handedly during Western Australia's Telethon charity event.
