Joslyn Rose is an Emmy®-nominated director, award-winning filmmaker, producer, and writer skilled in both narrative and documentary storytelling. Her work includes scripted films, documentaries, and digital series, with projects showcased on platforms such as Showtime, Paramount, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Starz, and Lionsgate. Her films have premiered at prestigious festivals like Sundance, Essence, and Urbanworld. She was also a finalist for the Academy Gold Women's Fellowship from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Joslyn’s feature-length studio directorial debut, Stand (Showtime/Paramount+), an Emmy®-nominated documentary, chronicles the remarkable story of activist and basketball talent Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. The film features appearances by Steph Curry, Mahershala Ali, Ice Cube, Shaquille O’Neal, and others, and received a Sports Emmy® Award nomination for Outstanding Feature Length Documentary.
Her narrative short films have garnered international recognition, premiering at Sundance London and winning Best Short at the American Film Awards and TopShorts’ Best Female Director. She has received honors from the Berlin Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Awards, and won Best Director at the LA Independent Women Film Awards. Her earlier short, Umi’s Heart, starring Academy Award® winner Mahershala Ali, was celebrated at the One Nation Film Festival.
Joslyn has directed and produced music and social justice projects featuring President Barack Obama, Megan Thee Stallion, Common, Nick Cannon, and Snoop Dogg. Her credits include collaborations with Uninterrupted, BET, MTV, and Common’s Imagine Justice, as well as the documentary Tale of the Tape, which explores the legacy of the mixtape in hip hop and features J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, and Kendrick Lamar.
She has been invited to speak by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for its Gold Rising program and has served as a judge for the Emmy® Awards and the Webby Awards. Joslyn is a member of Women in Film (WIF) and the Alliance of Women Directors. She has guest-hosted at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and curated panels through Starz’s Take The Lead initiative to amplify underrepresented voices in entertainment.
