Biografia
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in 1957, Lynette Louise left school at 15, married, and had two children before turning 20. By age 29, she had adopted four toddlers, all boys with varying degrees of autism. Later, she added two troubled teenage girls, one with learning disabilities, bringing the total to eight children. The story of how these children not only survived but thrived reflects Lynette's persistence, unorthodox methods, and unwavering love.
A pivotal moment occurred when Lynette moved the family to a shelter after discovering that her third husband had destroyed their ten-year marriage by molesting one of her biological daughters. After this painful experience, Lynette worked various odd jobs—from mail carrier to advice columnist—to support her children as a single parent. Yet, she always returned to her first passion: theatre. Over the years, Lynette performed stand-up comedy, winning Toronto's funniest comedian title in 1990, acted in several films, and hosted a weekly cooking show on Canada's Life Network. She also independently produced comedy and music shows, transforming the family into a traveling theatre troupe. In the early 1990s, she wrote, produced, and performed Behind Bars, a musical that toured prisons across Canada and the United States.
In 1996, Lynette moved to the United States to better support her children. Today, as young adults, all of her children live independently except for Dar, 26, who still resides with her.
Beyond self-education and hands-on experience, Lynette earned certification as a child facilitator from the Autism Treatment Center of America and as a neurofeedback practitioner, studying with experts such as Catherine Rule of Northampton, Massachusetts, and Dr. Harold Burke of Westlake, California.
In 2004, Lynette founded the Brain and Body Clinic, a treatment center specializing in autism and other brain disorders using neurofeedback—a therapy that enhances brain function by training individuals to regulate their brainwave activity. Although based in Santa Monica, California, Lynette works directly with clients and their families worldwide.
As of 2008, Lynette is touring nationally with her one-woman play, Thing To Thing To Thing - From Crazy To Sane With Biofeedback, Autism And The Brain. Filled with humorous, poignant, and inspiring stories from her life, the show blends monologues, brain science, and music as Lynette shares her two-decade journey to help her special needs children grow into independent adults.
