Binghamton native Jon Donahue has built an impressive resume over the years, earning a reputation as one of Hollywood's friendliest, most charming, and versatile actors. Raised in the peaceful town of Binghamton, Jon grew up surrounded by the Hollywood legacy of notable locals, including Rod Serling, creator of "The Twilight Zone." As a freshman at Seton Catholic Central, he took part in the stage production of "Arsenic and Old Lace," portraying 'Mr. Gibbs,' which ignited his passion for acting and entertaining. Demonstrating his dedication to the entertainment world, he began working at the concession stand of the local movie theater and was managing it by age 18. One rainy night, while rushing with a film reel for the single-screen theater, he dropped it into a puddle but managed to salvage "Joe Versus The Volcano." Unbeknownst to him then, this would mark the start of a lasting and fruitful collaboration with the film’s star, Tom Hanks.
Eager to advance his career, Jon moved to Orlando to work at Universal Studios, where he famously defended tourists from "Jaws" using a 40mm grenade launcher. Steven Spielberg later remarked to Jon on the set of the Oscar-winning "Bridge of Spies," "Now we are working together again on dry land!" Jon’s talent was soon recognized by Nickelodeon Studios, where he took on the coveted role of the 'Gakmeister,' creator of the studio’s iconic GAK and trademark green slime. After his slime-making days ended, he returned to Binghamton, where his 'Gakmeister' role caught the attention of the hiring manager at local CBS affiliate WBNG-TV. Initially offered a behind-the-scenes production job, Jon persuaded the news manager to let him host an on-air segment when the Nickelodeon traveling show visited town. The segment was a hit, leading to his promotion as an on-air Feature Reporter, where he wrote, produced, and hosted his own segments. At WBNG, he interviewed actors such as Gregory Hines and Jon Stewart.
Buoyed by this success, Jon relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting full-time. He rigorously studied at the acclaimed Playhouse West in North Hollywood, founded by Jeff Goldblum and Robert Carnegie, where he trained in the Sandy Meisner technique, following in the footsteps of alumni like Michelle Pfeiffer and James Franco. He also trained with "E.T." actress Dee Wallace at her Burbank studio. Encouraged by Robin Williams, Jon enrolled at the prestigious Upright Citizens Brigade Improvisational and Sketch Comedy Training Center. This training paved the way for his television and film career, enabling him to work with renowned directors such as Mike Nichols, Steven Spielberg, Paul Greengrass, and Ron Howard.
Jon is a frequent collaborator with Tom Hanks, most recently starring as 'Richard Savage' in the Sony film "Inferno," alongside Hanks and under the direction of Ron Howard. Before "Inferno," he worked with Spielberg and Hanks on the Oscar-winning "Bridge of Spies" and with Hanks and Mike Nichols on "Charlie Wilson's War." Jon demonstrated his wide acting range in the Emmy-nominated TNT comedy "Men of a Certain Age" with Ray Romano, and in Cameron Crowe’s Showtime original series "Roadies." Younger audiences often recognize Jon for his voice role as 'Antonio,' the K-9 German Shepherd in the popular Disney film "Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2."
Jon currently resides in Los Angeles, where, when not filming, he enjoys hiking in the nearby mountains, watching movies with friends, and expanding his collection of vintage movie posters.
