Alim Kouliev is a Russian-American actor and director of Balkar origin. Kouliev was born in Nalchik - a small city in the USSR. His father was the Balkar poet Kaisyn Kuliev. His elder brother Eldar Kuliev is a Russian film director and a screenwriter, living in Moscow. His younger brother Azamat Kuliev is a Russian painter, living and working in Istanbul, Turkey. At seven, Kouliev was influenced by Vladimir Visotsky an acclaimed Russian actor, poet, and singer, one of his father's younger colleagues in the poetry field. Alim decided to become an actor. Has performed extensively as an actor in film, radio, and TV. He has twelve years of acting experience working in several leading Moscow theaters. He has created many great characters in classic and contemporary theater productions, under the best Russian theatrical directors. In 1991 his life changed dramatically. He moved to the United States. At present, producer-actor-director works in Hollywood with "The Master Project", his stage adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita" and performs extensively as an actor in the Hollywood film industry, on stage, and TV. Alim Kouliev is a Los Angeles-based actor known for his emotionally charged, psychologically nuanced performances across film, television, and theater. With a background in classical training from the prestigious GITIS and VGIK, he brings a rare depth and precision to every role, blending technical mastery with instinctive emotional truth. Kouliev has played leading roles in Taxi Dance and El Freeman, where his performances were marked by intensity, vulnerability, and a strong inner presence. On stage, he demonstrates a contrasting versatility, moving seamlessly between drama and comedy in productions such as Room Service and Till Death Do Us Part. Fluent in both Russian and English, Kouliev works internationally and is drawn to complex, character-driven stories that explore identity, moral conflict, and transformation.
