Dan Clark started his career as an athlete, playing football at San Jose State before joining the Los Angeles Rams and competing in the Professional European League. From 1989 to 1996, he gained fame as "Nitro" on seven seasons of the hit game show American Gladiators, which aired in more than 40 countries and had reruns on USA Network, TNT, and Spike. As of 2007, the show was airing on ESPN Classic. He also served as a Consulting Producer on NBC's 2008 revival of American Gladiators.
Transitioning into acting, Dan appeared in films such as Death Becomes Her (1992) alongside Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, and Goldie Hawn, and Equilibrium (2002) with Christian Bale. His television guest appearances include roles on Ellen (1994), Walker, Texas Ranger (1993), V.I.P. (1998), Married... with Children (1987), Who's the Boss? (1984), Saved by the Bell (1989), and The Brothers Garcia (2000).
A versatile talent, Dan wrote, directed, and produced the independent film Looking for Bruce (1996). He has also penned several screenplays for various studios and producers, including a biopic titled Battle of Harlem, which tells the story of the first African-American police officer in the NYPD.
Dan has been featured on numerous talk shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962), Good Morning America (1975), The CBS Morning News (1987), Today (1952), Live with Kelly and Mark (1988), Sally Jessy Raphael (1983), and The Montel Williams Show (1991). He has appeared on the cover of TV Guide and many other magazines.
An enthusiast of sports, yoga, acting, writing, and martial arts—holding a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do—Dan often performs his own stunts. Since 2002, he has also been a mentor in the Young Story Tellers program, which aims to improve literacy among inner-city youth. Residing in the Hollywood Hills, Dan frequently takes his Labrador Retriever, Ella, for walks at nearby Runyon Canyon Park.
