Beginning with his early days in Three 6 Mafia as a Southern rap trailblazer, Paul's talents as a DJ, producer, and rapper propelled the energetic group to earn multiple RIAA platinum and gold certifications through hits like "Tear The Club Up," "Late Night Tip," "Sippin' On Some Syrup," and "Stay Fly."
Three 6 Mafia’s iconic status in Memphis caught the attention of emerging director Craig Brewer, who enlisted Paul and his group to provide music for his 2005 film Hustle & Flow, a compelling narrative about Hip Hop, poverty, and pursuing dreams, featuring a memorable cameo by DJ Paul himself.
The lead single from Hustle & Flow, "Hard Out Here For A Pimp," co-written by DJ Paul, won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 78th Academy Awards, instantly elevating Three 6 Mafia to a higher level of entertainment fame.
In 2007, the reality TV series Three 6 Mafia's Adventures In HollyHood premiered on MTV, documenting the group’s move to Hollywood following their Oscar victory. Fans witnessed DJ Paul, Three 6 Mafia, and their successful label artists Project Pat and Lil Wyte up close.
Paul sustained his musical momentum with Three 6 Mafia’s 2008 album Last 2 Walk and his solo project Scale-A-Ton in 2009, alongside acclaimed street mixtapes and label releases.
Throughout much of the last decade, Paul made numerous TV appearances. In 2011, he returned prominently to reality TV on VH1’s Famous Food, a competition featuring seven celebrities vying to open and co-own a Hollywood restaurant with the esteemed Dolce Group.
From the start, Paul’s passion for cuisine, presentation skills, and sharp business acumen made him an early frontrunner, ultimately winning the contest and becoming co-owner of Lemon Basket alongside Danielle Staub from Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey.
Riding the wave of his Famous Food success, Paul launched a signature line of BBQ spice rubs and sauces in 2011, honoring Memphis’ rich BBQ heritage. With growing sales and plans for nationwide distribution, Paul’s Southern influence continues to expand.
In 2012, Paul released his solo album and DVD Person of Interest. He soon announced the formation of Da Mafia 6ix, reuniting original Three 6 Mafia members for the 6ix Commandments mixtape. He also produced an exclusive EP with Yelawolf, released on Halloween 2013. Early 2014 saw Da Mafia 6ix embark on a six-week national tour, followed by a summer tour.
