Leopold St-Pierre, an award-winning writer, brings over 25 years of experience in television across Canada, the US, and the UK. Over the last decade, he has concentrated on film and theater projects, collaborating with major studios such as Warner Bros., Fox, ABC, Disney, and the BBC. His work also includes partnerships with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber (The Really Useful Group) and Sir George Martin, the renowned Beatles producer. Recently, he has worked alongside and written for actors including Gabriel Byrne, Eric Roberts, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Joanna Lumley, Billy Dee Williams, and Richard Chamberlain.
With more than 1,200 hours of produced television to his credit, Leopold has written 32 feature screenplays. Notable titles include Platinum (1997) for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group, The Modern Man (which he also directed; IFD), Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World (1998) (Equinoxe/ITC), The Mystery of the Red-Headed Woman (Warner Bros. and France 3), and In the Midnight Hour.
He has received six Telefilm Canada Screenwriting awards for works such as The Magic Diary, Montreal City Blues, City of Saints, Romeo & Romeo, Ma Belle, and The Midnight Bride. Additionally, he earned six Astral Media / Harold Greenberg Fund Screenwriting grants for Forget-Me-Not, After Midnight, Sin City, Dangerous Games, City of Saints, and Prisoners of Paradise.
Leopold co-runs Media Vérité Films with Malcolm Clarke, a production company recognized with three BAFTA nominations, two Golden Pandas, and four Academy Award nominations. Among its accolades is an Oscar win for Malcolm Clarke's The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life (2013). Leopold also contributed as writer and producer to Clarke's feature documentary Better Angels (2018).
His plays, including Two Piranhas, The Mask of Sanity, and The Cat and the Fiddle, have been staged in Montreal, London, and Toronto. Two Piranhas notably secured three major awards, including Infinity Theatre’s Best Play award in 2018.
Leopold penned the screenplay for The Gospel of Judas, inspired by the recently discovered 3rd-century manuscript published by National Geographic. His theatrical comedy One Love is under development with Thom Mount; 1,001 Elvises is being developed by Creative Atlantic Communications; and his award-winning 1940s Montreal thriller City of Saints is in development with Couzin Films. He has also recently contributed to two animated features in development: Grizzy & The Lemmings (Hari Productions, France) and The Magic Circus (Artefact Productions, Shanghai).
He has extensive experience as a script doctor for HBO, Promark, Lionsgate, and Showtime. Holding an MA in Film from McGill University, Leopold has taught screenwriting at Vanier College and the University of Toronto. His noir novel, The Girl with the Powder-Blue Eyes, will be published by Jade Dragon Press.
