Carl brings over 30 years of production experience in film and television, pioneering innovative methods in filmmaking processes, financing, and talent development. His collaborations with the BBC, Channel 4/Film4, and the BFI have incorporated cutting-edge technology, introduced new workflows, and launched the international careers of numerous artists. Carl produced My Brother Tom, starring Ben Whishaw, developed the series Heimat III with acclaimed director Edgar Reitz, managed a slate of feature films for Tall Stories, and established Raindance Rawtalent, the production division of Raindance. As a producer on Simon Rumley’s breakthrough film The Living and the Dead, they continue to create new projects together. Leveraging his extensive industry knowledge, Carl frequently speaks at festivals, film schools, training organizations, and coproduction markets throughout Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. He is a BAFTA voting member and serves as a consultant producer for the Swiss film production intelligence startup Largo.ai. Carl founded ScreenTalk Oxfordshire and teaches screenwriting for the British Film Institute and at the University of Oxford, where he also leads creative communities of artists and researchers. His students’ work has been showcased on the BBC, Netflix, in theaters across the UK, US, Russia, and Germany, as well as at major international film festivals, including Cannes and Berlin.
