Blond and sullen-faced, Frederico Boido was born in 1938 in Novi Ligure, Alessandria, Piemonte, Italy. He became a recognizable figure in European cinema, appearing in genres ranging from sci-fi to westerns, and was a regular cast member of the dark photo novels known as Killing in Italy, Satanik in France, and Sadistik in America. Often cast as a deranged psycho, he gained the distinction of being killed by space vampires, cowboys, and iconic dark comic characters like Diabolik and Sadistik—often multiple times.
At 26, Boido made his film debut in a typical peplum (sword & sandal) epic of the time, Sansone e il tesoro degli Incas (known in the US as Hercules and the Treasure of the Incas). The film also featured future Sadistik actor Franco Jamonte. Following this, Boido appeared in Thrilling, a three-segment film featuring an episode inspired by the dark, Diabolik-like character Sadik.
After several uncredited roles in spy films, Rico Boido made a notable impact in Mario Bava’s atmospheric movie Terrore nello spazio (Planet of Vampires, 1965), playing a zombie astronaut.
Beginning with the first issue in 1966, Rico Boido appeared in Sadistik adventures while continuing to menace audiences on the big screen. A staple of spaghetti westerns, he also portrayed a henchman in Bava’s iconic Danger: Diabolik, delivering a memorable scene where he plugs a bullet hole in a jet cabin with chewing gum. Boido also made a cameo in Federico Fellini’s surreal Toby Dammit segment in Histoires extraordinaires (Spirits of the Dead, 1968).
Over the next decade, Boido frequently appeared as a gunslinger in various Trinity, Sartana, Django, and Sabata westerns, and he also played a hitman in the 1973 film Superfly T.N.T.
Recently, Boido participated in an interview about his photo novel work for a documentary titled The Diabolikal Super Kriminal.
