August Maturo is widely recognized for his leading role on the popular Disney Channel Original Series "Girl Meets World," where he portrayed 'Auggie,' the clever son of Cory [Ben Savage] and Topanga [Danielle Fishel] Matthews. The show debuted to 5.2 million viewers and featured Maturo in over 70 episodes. "Girl Meets World" earned three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Children's Program, three Teen Choice Awards nominations, and a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award nomination. Maturo's other TV credits include appearances on "Teachers," "The Odd Couple," "Weeds," "Dads," "Bones," "Raising Hope," "See Dad Run," "Suburgatory," "The Connors," "S.W.A.T.," and "How I Met Your Mother." In 2023, he guest-starred in FOX’s crime anthology "Accused" alongside Rachel Bilson, Jack Davenport, and Reid Miller, and appeared opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt in FOX’s "9-1-1."
Maturo transitioned to film with a role in the successful horror movie "The Nun" (Warner Bros), which grossed over $366 million globally. He played 'Daniel' opposite Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, and Bonnie Aarons.
He also stars as the lead in two feature films. In the independent film "Shepherd: The Story of a Jewish Dog" (also released as "Shepherd: The Story of a Hero Dog"), Maturo plays Joshua. The film, based on the bestselling Israeli novel "The Jewish Dog" by Asher Kravitz, was written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Lynn Roth ("The Little Traitor") and produced by Howard Rosenman ("Call Me By Your Name"). This acclaimed movie was among the first to be released in theaters during the pandemic, alongside "Cruella" and "A Quiet Place 2." For his performance, Maturo received the MovieBuff 2021 Independent Film Award for Best Breakthrough Performance.
Additionally, Maturo leads as Lucas in the Shudder/AMC+ horror/thriller "Slapface," now available on all platforms. The film tells the story of a young boy coping with the loss of his parents and bullying through a perilous bond with a monster. Maturo earned the Best Actor Award at the UK’s Grimmfest for this role and garnered rave reviews, holding a 91% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Born in Ventura, California in 2007 to an Italian father and Jordanian mother, Maturo began acting professionally at age four after performing in a church play. His passion for storytelling led his parents to guide him through film and TV auditions, where he quickly impressed casting directors and producers. His first significant TV role was a guest star spot on HBO's "Weeds" at age four, followed by a recurring role on "How I Met Your Mother." He secured his role in "Girl Meets World" at age five, becoming the youngest actor ever to sign a Disney Channel contract.
Maturo is committed to raising awareness about life-threatening food allergies, a cause close to him and his family since he was three years old. In 2022, he launched his production company, Maturo Entertainment. For its inaugural project, he collaborated with Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmakers Just Like You Films to produce and star in a docu-drama hybrid feature about food allergies. Filmed in virtual reality, the project uses immersive storytelling to convey the experience of living with severe food allergies.
In 2022, Maturo graduated from high school and began college at age 14. He currently resides in the Los Angeles area with his parents and younger brother, actor Ocean Maturo.
