David Charvet, who gained worldwide recognition through the popular series Baywatch (1989) and Melrose Place (1992), is now transitioning to feature films, having recently completed leading roles in two movies.
In the sports drama Green Flash (2008), Charvet portrays "Cameron Day," a basketball star poised for an NBA career until a critical game collapse derails his future, leading to a directionless existence. A chance meeting introduces him to the professional beach volleyball circuit in Southern California, but his past struggles resurface, jeopardizing his success. This film marks the directorial debut of Paul Nihipali Jr., a former U.S. National Volleyball team member (1995-1997), three-time All-American, and captain of UCLA's championship-winning men's volleyball team. Shot on location in Southern California, Green Flash is produced by Cameron Dieterich and Joseph John Barmettler, with Bob Smiland as executive producer. Its theatrical release was planned to align with the Summer 2008 Olympic Games.
Earlier this year, Charvet starred in the action-adventure film Prisoners of the Sun (2013), directed by Academy Award-winner Roger Christian (Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999), The Dollar Bottom (1981)). He plays "Doug Adler," an archaeologist enlisted by an eccentric professor to lead a national expedition to uncover a lost city beneath an Egyptian pyramid. The mission takes a perilous turn as ancient Egyptian gods awaken from a 5,000-year slumber to seek revenge on the team. The film, with a $10 million budget, co-stars John Rhys-Davies, Joss Ackland, and Carmen Chaplin.
Charvet began his acting career on Baywatch (1989), the most-watched show worldwide at the time, earning a strong international fan base as lifeguard "Matt Brody" over three seasons. He expanded his audience with the role of "Craig Field" on Melrose Place (1992) for two seasons. His credits also include NBC's telefilm Seduced and Betrayed (1995) and ABC movies-of-the-week Derby (1995) and Angel Flight Down (1996). Additionally, he starred in the independent feature Meet Prince Charming (1999) alongside Drea de Matteo.
As a Universal Music recording artist, Charvet spent five years in Europe releasing three successful pop-rock albums under a five-album contract with Universal Music Group France. He has sold over 2.5 million albums, with three singles—"Leap of Faith," "Should I Leave," and "The Tears in My Eyes"—reaching the Top 10 charts.
Charvet has toured extensively across Europe and Asia, performing to sold-out arenas, composing music, and embracing new cultures. He has collaborated with prominent songwriters like Ty Lacy (writer of LeAnn Rimes' "I Need You") and worked with Steve Power, producer for Robbie Williams. He recorded a duet with Bryan Adams and worked on another with Seal.
Though his music career has been prominent in recent years, Charvet has continually sought fresh creative challenges. Now back in the United States, he is eager to return to his first passion—acting—bringing the depth and experience gained from music to his performances. "Music has helped me to evolve tremendously as an artist and has enriched me personally in so many ways," he reflects. "I left America a boy and have come back a man."
Charvet trained with esteemed acting coaches Roy London and Larry Moss. He currently lives in Malibu, California, with his fiancée Brooke Burke and their infant daughter, Heaven Rain.
