Over nearly five decades, Emilio Gutiérrez Caba has maintained a steady presence in theater, film, and television. Collaborating with esteemed directors on the big screen, he has become a theatrical icon. Since his debut in the 1960s, he has portrayed over a hundred characters across numerous series, plays, and more than 80 films. Born in Valladolid in 1942 into a distinguished family of entertainers, he is the son of Emilio Gutiérrez and Irene Caba Alba, and brother to actresses Irene Gutiérrez Caba and Julia Gutiérrez Caba. Growing up surrounded by acting and the arts, his passion for the craft quickly developed. Though he initially studied philosophy, his commitment to acting solidified during university. He began his theater career in 1962 with Lilí Murati's company and landed his first film role in 1963 in Jesús Franco's 'El llanero'. In 1968, he co-founded a theater company with actress María José Goyanes. Since 1979, he has starred in works by classical playwrights such as Gil Vicente, Calderón, Shakespeare, Joyce, and Juan Ruiz de Alarcón, alongside contemporary writers like Álvaro del Amo, Jorge Díaz, Fermín Cabal, and Juan García Larrondo. His portrayal of Don Diego in Moratín's 'The Maidens' Consent' (1996) remains iconic. In 2003, he earned a Best Actor nomination from the Spanish Actors Guild for 'The Prince and the Showgirl'. His role in 'Mourning Becomes Electra' won him the Max Award for Best Supporting Actor. Although primarily celebrated for his stage work, Gutiérrez Caba has balanced theater with film, appearing in literary adaptations such as 'The Beehive', 'Werther', 'Requiem for a Spanish Peasant', and 'La sombra del ciprés es alargada'. He also featured in Jaime Chávarri's 'Bicycles Are for the Summer' and collaborated with Pedro Almodóvar on 'What Have I Done to Deserve This?'. On television, he brought to life figures like San Juan de la Cruz in the acclaimed series 'Teresa de Jesús' and Don Vicente Cortázar in 'Gran Reserva', roles that earned him both the Best Actor Ondas Award and a Spanish Actors Guild Best Actor Award. His filmography includes 'The First Night of My Life' and 'Goya in Bordeaux'. Notably, his performance in 'Common Wealth' garnered the Goya Award for Best Supporting Actor, as well as the CEC and Spanish Actors' Guild Awards in the same category. He soon secured a second Goya for 'Ten Days Without Love'. More recently, his work includes Julio Medem's 'The Tree of Blood', Jaume Balagueró's 'Way Down', Gabriela Tagliavini's 'Despite Everything', Juan José Alfonso's play 'After The Rehearsal', and the Amazon Prime series 'La Templanza'.
