Bethany Brown is a Canadian actor and rising director and producer, currently starring as the lead in A Safe Distance, which premiered worldwide at SXSW in March 2026. She portrays Alex, who, while stranded in the British Columbia wilderness, encounters fugitives and becomes dangerously involved in their relationship. Brown also contributed as an Associate Producer on the film.
She recently gained recognition as series regular Corporal Laila Jackson in FOX’s acclaimed crime drama Murder in a Small Town, delivering a compelling portrayal of a young officer grappling with trauma and addiction while seeking redemption in a coastal community. Her performance earned her a Leo Award nomination.
Brown’s recent work includes the dark comedy-thriller F*, Marry, Kill from BuzzFeed Studios and Lionsgate, starring opposite Lucy Hale, a series regular role in Plan B (CBC Gem), and guest appearances on Wild Cards (The CW), The Irrational (NBC), and Watson (CBS). She has also had recurring roles on The Good Doctor, Charmed, The 100, and The Flash.
She won the 2025 UBCP/ACTRA Award for Best Lead Performance in a Movie for We Three Kings and has received multiple Leo Award nominations across film and television. Her directorial debut, the short film Meet Me en Rêve, gained international acclaim, winning Best LGBTQ Short at festivals in Paris and Barcelona, as well as Best Director awards in London and beyond during 2024 and 2025.
With A Safe Distance premiering at SXSW, Brown is solidifying her status as a powerful emerging lead talent in film and television.
Beyond screen work, Bethany’s stage presence earned her a 2020 Jessie Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in Ayad Akhtar’s play Disgraced. Her strong connection to the performing arts stems from a musical upbringing; she began classical music studies at age three and became a multi-award-winning professional violinist by nine. A versatile musician, she plays several instruments and has showcased her singing abilities on various projects. In 2021, her children’s music group The Treebees achieved over 10 million views per episode on YouTube, earning Grammy and Juno nominations and highlighting her broad artistic talents.
Hailing from Burnaby, BC, Bethany grew up on a 100-acre farm in the Okanagan, where she spent her childhood milking cows, gathering eggs, riding horses, and churning butter. At 17, she moved to Vancouver to play collegiate soccer at Simon Fraser University in the NAIA but returned to the arts after a foot injury ended her athletic pursuits. Transitioning from classical music to acting and directing, Bethany has become a versatile and dynamic force in the entertainment industry, with much more to come.
