Mel England has performed extensively on screen and stage, including Off Broadway, internationally, and across the USA. Most recently, he starred in the play "Electricity," earning Best Actor in Tour from Lavender Magazine. In the title role of "Ron And Laura Take Back America," England received two Best Actor nominations and won Best Acting Ensemble. The film, which he co-wrote and co-directed with Janice Markham, garnered 14 additional awards and nominations, including Best Comedy and Best Director, and featured Golden Globe Best Actress nominee Irene Bedard. He stars in the feature "Best Day Ever," available on Amazon Prime, which won Best LGBT Film at IndieFest, and appears alongside Academy Award Best Actress nominee and Golden Globe winner Sally Kirkland in "Archeology of a Woman." England recently signed on to star with Kirkland in the upcoming film "Love Anonymous." Other notable projects include "Little Big Top" with horror icon Sid Haig (released worldwide on Netflix), the dark comedy "Persona Au Gratin" (Best Comedy, IndieFest), and "Highlights" (Best Drama Nominee, Moviefone Film Festival). Most recently, he appears in "From Zero to I Love You" and the TV movie "Fame at a Deadly Cost," airing on Lifetime and internationally on Canal.
On stage, England's solo show "Swimming with the Polar Bears," directed by Jill Andre, premiered Off-Broadway as part of a benefit for The Climate Project. The show featured posters signed by former Vice President Al Gore and toured globally, including stops at the 2009 UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen, Los Angeles, and the National Mall in Washington DC for Earth Day’s 40th anniversary. His other Off Broadway credits include "Hecuba," "Marriage," and "The Imaginary Invalid." England's solo show "Navajo Memoirs" was praised as "Ingenious" by Backstage. He starred in the New York and Los Angeles premieres of Israel Horovitz's one-man show "3 Weeks After Paradise." Additional notable stage work includes "Lucky Man" (Best Acting Ensemble, NY Fringe), "A Shayna Maidel" (Best Play of the Year, Denver), and original New York productions of Chris Sanderson's "Midsummer Night's Dream" at Washington Square, "Sea Monkeys" by Tony nominee Chad Beguelin ("The Prom"), "The Honeysuckles" (developed for TV by FOX), "Freddy" at LA's Fountain Theatre, and "King of Connecticut" alongside Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
