Gary Meister is an acclaimed composer, music producer, and musician, as well as the founder and owner of Naturalistic Music + Sound (www.naturalistic.net), a New York City-based production company specializing in original music for film, television, advertising, virtual reality, and emerging media.
His notable works include Joe's Violin (2017 Oscar Nominee, Best Documentary Short), In The Dark (Peabody Award recipient), The New Yorker Presents (Amazon), Death Row Stories (CNN), A League Of Ordinary Gentlemen (Magnolia Pictures), Sesame Street, The Tudors, Locked Up (Discovery), Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, Weeds, Making Dazed (AMC), Everyday Food (Martha Stewart Omnimedia), The Franchise (Showtime), Eavesdropping With Alan Cumming (Oxygen), Sportsfan (Jon Stewart's Busboy Productions), and numerous documentaries addressing social and environmental issues such as women's rights, Native American rights, education, childhood development, prison reform, torture, AIDS, 9/11, The Holocaust, healthcare, and the death penalty. His score for Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2 premiered in 2014 across more than 650 theaters in the United States.

Gary frequently collaborates with top musicians and engineers, including Jill Sobule, Rhett Miller (Old 97s), Dennis Diken (The Smithereens), Todd Reynolds (Bang On A Can), and Mike Viola.
His music supervision credits include the film Hank: 5 Years From The Brink (Joe Berlinger) and the forthcoming Judee Sill: How To Give My Heart Away. As a curator for unique live music events, he has worked with artists such as Santigold, Steve Earle, and Amanda Palmer. He also produced and moderated the film scoring panel series Scoring On The Bowery Doesn't Mean What It Used To for the CBGB Festival, featuring artists like Vernon Reid, David Mansfield, Stephen Trask, and Nathan Larson.
Previously, Gary led the power-pop band You And What Army as singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He produced their analog album Kinda Wanna (released on Big Deal/Caroline Records), which received critical acclaim and significant airplay. The band, a staple of the New York City club scene, was named Best Power Pop Band by NY Press. Gary has studied Balinese gamelan music and was a member of the gamelan ensemble Darma Swara, known for sold-out performances at Lincoln Center and Central Park's SummerStage. He has also collaborated with ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax, assisting in the development of Lomax's Global Jukebox, and hosted and produced the Knitting Factory's groundbreaking webcast The Song.
Gary resides in New York City with his wife and daughter.
