Rick Howland is a Canadian actor based in Los Angeles with a Green Card, best known for his role as Trick in five seasons of the popular SyFy series "Lost Girl." In 2019 and early 2020, he portrayed Borachio in a production of "Much Ado About Nothing," the villain in the feature film "Captain Tsunami's Army," acted alongside Chris Mulkey in "A Safe Guide to Dying," appeared as a severed head on a shelf in "Good Head," and played Dr. Stan, a were-goat transforming character, in the web series "The Vamps Next Door," for which he also wrote.
Howland has been interrogated by Yannick Bisson in three different productions: "Murdoch Mysteries," "Sue Thomas F.B.Eye," and "Crazy For Christmas." He takes pride in his role in Canadian cinema history, portraying Harry Buttman, the Commissioner of the Hockey League, in the blockbuster film "Bon Cop Bad Cop," starring opposite Patrick Huard and Colm Feore. He also played the son of Canadian icon Jayne Eastwood in "Endless Grind." His comedic talents were showcased in the improvised show "Train 48" and in a recurring role as the computer technician Keach on "Billable Hours."
Beginning with improvisation under the guidance of a skilled acting teacher, Howland won regional gold medals at the Improv Olympics two years in a row. In 1990, he founded the comedy troupe "The Four Strombones," which performed for over a decade at various Toronto comedy clubs including Yuk Yuk's Sketch Pad, Big City Improv, Lee's Palace, and the Rivoli. The troupe created the audience-favorite show "In Transit: 40 Minutes After Midnight" for the 1994 Toronto Fringe Festival. His first professional acting job was in the feature film "To Catch A Yeti," opposite Meat Loaf. Howland has also hosted comedy shows and wrote his own stand-up routine for "Club Land," directed by Saul Rubinek with a screenplay by Steven Webber.
He co-wrote and directed the short films "Underwritten" and "#Inclusion Rider the movie," and produced, directed, and edited the YouTube web series "Backseat with P and J."
As a singer-songwriter, Howland released the EP "Hold My Hand," which is available on iTunes and various streaming platforms.
He is currently studying at The BGB Studio in Burbank.
