Biografia
Marc Hampson is a feature film director recognized for works such as The Man in the Trunk (2019) and Before the Lights Come Up (2013). He has been married to Lacey Hampson since April 12, 2003, and they have two children.
In 1988, Hampson's family relocated to Moreno Valley, CA, to establish a small community church. At age six, he began his extensive behind-the-scenes career on his first "crew," taking on roles such as running sound, lighting, light construction, improvising solutions, and performing, continuing through his college years.
His father, a minister, and his mother, a musical theater director, both encouraged his passion for the arts and creative exploration. By 18, he was illustrating commissioned comic pages for independent comics and working as a paid musician in local theater productions.
His passion for filmmaking sparked after watching the behind-the-scenes feature on a Braveheart DVD and attending an accelerated course at NYFA, Universal City, alongside future collaborator and cinematographer Paul Olson. Although initially uncertain about his path, he decided to pursue animation, leveraging his greater familiarity with Disney than Hollywood.
After studying in Long Beach, CA, and earning a degree in Animation and Multimedia, Hampson worked as a character animator and storyboard artist in Culver City. He simultaneously devoted much of his free time to independent film projects.
In 2008, along with longtime friends DP Paul Olson, sound technician Ronnie Ursenbach, and producer Aaron Fairley, he purchased a camera to create their own film. Over the next decade, Hampson directed independent features, short films, web series, and commercials, earning 17 festival awards—including Best Feature, Best Series, Critic's Choice, Best Storytelling, Audience Awards, and Best Director—under the production company Brotherhood Pictures.
Hampson became a member of the Directors Guild of America in 2016.
In 2022, he began preparing his first co-production under a new production banner, set to be announced later that year.
While primarily focused on directing feature films, Marc has also contributed to various projects as a producer, editor, post-production supervisor, VFX artist, composer, art director, and in other roles.
