Kate Robbins, born in Margate, Kent, is an English actress, comedian, singer, and songwriter. She rose to fame in the early 1980s with her UK chart hit "More Than In Love," which reached No. 2. She became well-known as a voice actress, particularly for her nine-year stint on the satirical show "Spitting Image."
Robbins is a first cousin once removed of Paul McCartney and the older sister of actress Amy Robbins; their mothers were first cousins. She attended Wirral Grammar School for Girls in Bebington, Cheshire.
She composed the original theme tune for "Surprise, Surprise" and voiced almost all the female characters on "Spitting Image" during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The 1986 Granada Television sketch show "Kate & Ted's Show" featured Robbins alongside her brother Ted and sisters Amy, Jane, and Emma Robbins. Following this, Granada TV commissioned "The Kate Robbins Show" in 1987.
In 1989, she performed her own comic songs at the piano during the Children's Royal Variety Performance on BBC TV and appeared in the original 2000 series of "Dead Ringers" on BBC Radio 4.
Robbins provided English-language dubbing for the Channel 4 series "Eurotrash" in 2006. In 2007, Bedfordshire University honored her with an Honorary Bachelor of Arts degree for her lifetime achievements in the Performing Arts.
She divorced musician Keith Atack amicably in 2008 after 19 years of marriage. They have three children: Emily Atack (actor and comedian, born 1989), Martha Atack (born 1991), and George Atack (born 1992).
Robbins was part of the "Grumpy Old Women" UK tours in 2014, 2015, and 2016 alongside comedian Jenny Eclair and actress Susie Blake. In 2018, she toured the UK playing Consuela in the 1980s musical "Club Tropicana."
She appeared in two episodes of the BBC comedy series "Dinnerladies" (1998) as Babs, a friend of Petula Gordino (played by Julie Walters), and later featured with writer Victoria Wood in the BBC special "Victoria Wood: With All the Trimmings" (2000).
More recently, Robbins appeared in three episodes of season 3 of Netflix's "Afterlife" as Penny Spencer-Wright, a fortune-telling author.
