For over two decades, Command Sergeant Major (retired) Eric L. Haney served in the Army's most challenging combat units: as a Combat Infantryman, a Ranger, and ultimately as a founding member of Delta Force, the Army's highly secretive counter-terrorism unit.
During his eight-year tenure with Delta Force, Haney tracked terrorists from Hamas to Hezbollah. He engaged with all levels of Arab society, from the Bedouin tribesmen’s tents to the Paris Ritz salons alongside the Saudi Royal Family. With more than twenty years of experience in the Middle East and North Africa, Haney possesses an unparalleled understanding of Arab and Islamic culture, history, and thought.
After retiring, Haney worked across the Middle East and Latin America, providing protection for princes, presidents, and CEOs. He led the team that facilitated President Bertrand Aristide’s return to Haiti. Haney also negotiated with Latin American guerrillas to secure the safe release of hostages and ensured security for international oil companies operating in some of the world's most hazardous regions. Additionally, he collaborated with former Delta commandos to rescue American children abducted globally.
Currently, Haney frequently appears as a commentator on national radio and television programs, including The O'Reilly Factor, Inside Edition, and Larry King Live. His appearances have also included CNN, Fox Network, and CBS News.
In 2003, Haney partnered with Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and director David Mamet on the film Spartan, starring Val Kilmer. Their successful collaboration led Haney, Mamet, and Shawn Ryan (creator of The Shield) to develop a television series inspired by Haney's "Inside Delta Force."
Haney is the author of Inside Delta Force: The Story of America's Elite Counter-terrorist Unit and now serves as a writer, producer, and technical advisor for the CBS series based on his book. The show, titled The Unit, premiered in January 2006.
