Biografia
Francisco Solorzano is an acclaimed Latino actor, writer, and producer. He is best known for writing, directing, and co-starring in the Off-Broadway premiere of the stage adaptation of the Academy Award-winning film Dog Day Afternoon. He holds Lifetime Membership at The Actors Studio in both NYC and LA.
Screenwriting credits include Cyclone, a short film featuring a Latinx cast that won several awards including Best Short Screenplay at the Katra Film Series; The Space Since And In Between; A Northern Star, starring Lynn Cohen, which won Best Short Film at the Barcelona International Film Festival and was a Best Screenplay Semi-Finalist at the Hollyshorts Film Festival. Other works include Sheep's Clothing, recently developed at The Actors Studio in NYC, and I Am Here, a BLM short film showcased at numerous international festivals.
In playwriting, Francisco made his Off-Broadway debut with Kingdom Come at Jean Cocteau Rep, followed by the world premiere stage adaptation of Dog Day Afternoon. His short play Mateo And The Whale debuted at Chongqing's Awake International Festival in China. Additional short plays include Flight, Mikey & Sally, Sound of Giants, and Blue Whale, featured in the national 1MPFestival at INTAR and The New Ohio Theater.
As an actor, Francisco is recognized for his leading role in the two-act drama SINS OF THE MOTHER, developed alongside Ethan Hawke, Chris Cooper, Bobby Cannavale, and Michael Stuhlbarg. He has performed in and directed numerous productions with prominent companies such as 303 Theater (Chongqing, China), The Flea Theatre, 59E59, INTAR, The New Ohio, LAByrinth, Rattlestick, Dixon Place, HERE Arts, Florida Stage, EST, Orlando Shakes, Stella Adler Theater, and Art of Acting Studio in LA.
With two decades of experience producing theatrical productions, Francisco has also produced special events including Barefoot Theatre Company's annual Gala and Vassallo Awards, Rockaway (benefitting Hurricane Sandy victims), and Indestructible (supporting victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the 2017 earthquake in Mexico). He served as Executive Producer for the 70/70 Horovitz Project, a global festival with select shows in Nigeria, Greece, Australia, and France. His collaborators include Annabella Sciorra, John Doman, Gina Gershon, Jesse Eisenberg, Craig muMs Grant, Kristoffer Diaz, David Zayas, Hillary Bettis, Andrea Ciannavei, Mickey Sumner, and Anna Chlumsky.
Francisco’s education includes ongoing TV writing studies with Andrea Ciannavei; screenwriting training at Jacob Krueger Studio; NYU Tisch’s Film and TV Industry Essentials; The Actors Studio; playwright workshops at Brooklyn College, Playwrights Horizons, and with Mary Gallagher. Acting training encompasses The Actors Studio (Lifetime Membership finalist), Lee Strasberg Theater Institute, HB Studio, LAByrinth Theater Company, advanced on-camera classes with Risa Bramon Garcia, and Lyle Kessler’s Acting Masterclass. He earned a BFA in Acting & Cinema Arts from CUNY’s Brooklyn College, where he received the Department of Theater Alumnus of the Year Award.
Currently, Francisco is the Creative Director at Connected Health Solutions, Inc., focusing on writing and producing. CHS is a team of public health and production experts dedicated to using new media and behavioral science to enhance the lives of vulnerable and underserved populations. He is Co-Founder of Barefoot Studio Pictures and Barefoot Theatre Company. A proud member of The Actors Studio’s Playwright/Directors Unit, Actors’ Equity Association, and SAG-AFTRA, Francisco divides his time between Brooklyn, NY, and Hollywood, CA.
