Biografia
Meegwun was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Anne Fairbrother, an elementary school teacher, and Alexander John Lands Jr., a visual artist and musician. He is of mixed Ojibwe and Scottish heritage, with family roots in Grassy Narrows, Shoal Lake, and Eagle Lake First Nation within Treaty Three Territory. Growing up, Meegwun hunted, fished, and participated in Ojibwe ceremonies alongside his grandfather and knowledge keeper, Albert Lands. Powwows, ceremonies, and art have always been integral to his life, alongside his passion for movies.
He completed high school in Kenora, Ontario, before being accepted into York University's acting conservatory, where he was among the first Indigenous students to graduate. Since then, he has worked in theatre, film, and television across North America, sharing the screen with Indigenous stars he admired growing up, such as Michael Greyeyes, August Schellenberg, and Tom Jackson. His breakout role came as Butterhead on APTN's "Mohawk Girls," followed by his portrayal of Daniel Aerov in Syfy's "Helix." He then secured a lead role in the series "Burden of Truth" and a supporting role in "The Sticky."
More recently, Meegwun voiced Avatar Kuruk in Netflix's "Avatar: The Last Airbender," appeared as a guest star on "Alaska Daily" and "Murdoch Mysteries," and took on his first lead role in the feature film "Lucky Strikes" (Crave).
Look for Meegwun in the upcoming season 8 of "Outlander" and as William Mitchell in Netflix's reimagined "Little House On The Prairie.
