Candy Dulfer is a powerhouse saxophonist born on September 19, 1969, in The Netherlands. She is the daughter of renowned saxophonist Hans Dulfer, who introduced her to the works of many jazz greats and nurtured her talent. At 12, she performed with American saxophonist Rosa King, whom she credits with "showing her the way." Shortly after, she formed her own band, Funky Stuff, which was chosen by Madonna to back her on European tours. Two key figures who helped launch her career were Prince and David A. Stewart. Prince featured her in his "Partyman" video, where she performed a solo, and she also played on one of his albums. Dave Stewart invited her to play sax on the title track of the Dutch film Lily Was Here (1989), leading to a record deal with Arista and the release of her debut album, Saxuality. This album, including "Lily Was Here" and a DNA remix, became a hit in the smooth jazz scene. In 1993, she released her second album, Sax-A-Go-Go, which included a Prince-written song and several covers. Candy returned to The Netherlands to release Big Girl in 1996, followed by For The Love Of You in 1997, where she showcased her vocal talents on several tracks. Her 1999 album, What Does It Take, received critical acclaim, with many considering it on par with Saxuality. In 2003, she released Right In My Soul, featuring more of her singing. Candy Dulfer maintains a strong fan base in The Netherlands and Europe, along with a dedicated following in the United States, including former President Bill Clinton.
