Terry Blamey is renowned for successfully managing Kylie Minogue's global career for over 25 years. He was with her at her debut performance before 38,000 people at Tokyo Dome in 1989, present at her latest show for Prince Charles last month at St James Palace, and every performance in between. He has produced all her tours and filmed shows. Terry began his career as a music manager in 1966 while still in school in Melbourne, Australia. After earning his business degree from Melbourne University in the early 1970s, he met music mogul Michael Gudinski, with whom he remains close colleagues. By 1973, Terry was running Gudinski's Premier Artists agency, Australia’s largest band-booking agency, representing leading Australian rock acts including AC/DC. By 1974, he established his own successful agency and management company. In 1984, he founded the Victorian Entertainment Agents' Association and served as its president for four consecutive years.
Terry met Kylie in 1987, just before the release of her first single, a cover of Little Eva's 1962 hit "Locomotion." The song reached No.1 in Australia and top 5 worldwide the following year. Her debut album, "Kylie," achieved 7x platinum status in the UK. Since then, Kylie has released eleven more platinum-certified studio albums, alongside numerous live recordings, compilations, videos, TV specials, and DVDs. She has released over fifty singles worldwide, all hits, including classics like "I Should Be So Lucky," "Can't Get You Out Of My Head," "Spinning Around," "Better The Devil You Know," and "Slow." Kylie has earned countless gold and platinum discs, completed eight record-breaking sold-out world tours, and closed the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Her accolades include three BRIT Awards (plus ten nominations), a Grammy Award and five nominations, various MTV, Ivor Novello, ARIA, and World Music Awards, as well as Britain’s prestigious Music Industry Trust Award—the only woman to receive this honor in its 20-year history. Terry also launched the career of Kylie’s sister Dannii, achieving ten consecutive UK hits during their first decade working together.
Terry has three children and two granddaughters. Since relocating to London in 1991, he has been a key figure in the UK music scene. He received the MMF Manager of the Year Award in 2002, the ILMC Best Manager Award in 2003, and Britain’s Peter Grant Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music Management in 2012.
Grateful for the chance to give back to the industry that has supported him for over fifty years, Terry now dedicates his time to speaking to artist management students and consulting with artists, managers, and music business professionals. He currently collaborates with Australian legend Richard Clapton and a diverse range of artists internationally.
In January 2023, the Australian Governor-General honored Terry with the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) award in the Australia Day Honours List for his "significant service to management in the music industry."
When not touring, Terry and his longtime partner Lynn Curtis split their time between homes in London, Melbourne, and the mountains of Quebec.
