Saffron Cassaday launched her career as an actor while working as an assistant director and editor on various online, TV, and corporate projects. In 2014, she directed her first documentary feature film, "Cyber-Seniors." The film was showcased at 14 film festivals, winning the Audience Choice Award at the High Falls Film Festival, and was screened to full audiences in over 200 communities. "Cyber-Seniors" received nominations for Best Foreign Trailer at the 2014 Golden Trailer Awards and for the American Library Association Notable Videos for Adults in 2016. It has aired in 40 countries, including broadcasts on PBS, Netflix, and CBC in North America. The film also sparked a social campaign that has reached over 800 million people through events, traditional media, and social platforms, supported by more than 900 partners such as the AARP Foundation, Best Buy Foundation, TELUS Canada, BlueCross BlueShield Minnesota, and numerous schools, universities, and libraries.
Her second documentary, "Returning Citizens," filmed in Washington, D.C., highlights a dedicated group of formerly incarcerated individuals who have become community leaders. The film was released on Hulu, iTunes, and Amazon in late 2017, followed by a Bell VOD release in April 2018. Additionally, Saffron has directed and edited commercial projects for corporate clients including Fujitsu, Best Buy, and Ergo-Centric Seating.
Saffron holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from York University. She is a Canadian citizen residing in Los Angeles, holds a U.S. Business Visa through her production company The Best Part USA, and is legally authorized to work in both countries.
