Biografia
William Sutton, raised in Rawtenstall, Rossendale Valley, Lancashire, grew up with five older sisters and a younger brother born a year later. He attended grammar school until completing his O levels. At 16, he emigrated with his parents, brother, and next oldest sister to Mississauga, Ontario, where he finished high school through grade 13.
Following a gap year spent driving across the USA, he enrolled at Erindale College, University of Toronto, where he discovered his passion for acting. After a brief two-year stint as a luger on the Canadian Olympic B team, he relocated to Amsterdam, a city he loves. There, he began acting with the Stalhouderij Company and appeared in his earliest TV roles. William lives by the motto: always be working.
His love for Shakespeare began in 1995 after a chance meeting with an Ivy League professor in a coffee shop. This inspired him to study at the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon, allowing him to immerse himself in Shakespeare year-round. In the late 2000s and mid-2010s, he was a founding member and active participant in Passion in Practice, an Original Practice Shakespeare ensemble created by Ben Crystal.
To support his studies, he worked as a stand-up comedian, pioneering the comedy scene at the Comedy Cafe Amsterdam and touring extensively across the Netherlands, South Africa, Curacao, and Taiwan.
Now, thirty years later and considerably wiser, he teaches Shakespeare, voice, accents, and dialects. His passion and respect for the craft of acting remain strong. Having never had an agent, it's likely why he remains relatively unknown. He is truly one of acting’s best kept secrets.
