Vladimir Koyfman (born February 17, 1959) is a Russian theater and film director, producer, playwright, screenwriter, acting teacher, and lecturer in History and Philosophy of Arts at GITIS Scandinavia. He began his career as an artist in the 1980s after graduating from the Leningrad Vera Mukhina Higher School of Art and Design, one of the top art schools in the former USSR.
The following year, he continued his studies at the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts in the Directing Department. By the late 1980s, he was managing his own theater, The Leningrad Chamber Theatre, and had written and directed plays for theaters in Leningrad and Moscow, including "Charmed April," "Madam De Sade," "The Bald Soprano," "Miss Julie," "Svejk," and others, many of which received numerous festival awards. His play "On Christmas Eve" has been performed continuously for over 20 years.
In 1992, Vladimir Koyfman moved to Amsterdam, where he established The Amsterdam International Chamber Theatre from the ground up and served as its director. His theater toured extensively, participating in festivals across Italy, Russia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, the Netherlands, Ireland, Poland, Denmark, Norway, and Ukraine. Simultaneously, he was instrumental in founding GITIS Scandinavia (the Scandinavian branch of the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts, GITIS, Moscow) for European students in Aarhus, Denmark. The first graduates launched their careers throughout Europe in 2004, including Kristofer Hivju (known for his role as Tormund in "Game of Thrones").
He returned to Russia in 2008 and began working as a film director, producing content for Channel One and NTV. Since then, he has directed approximately 150 episodes of various series such as "Murders' Profile" and "Hotel Phoenix." One of his recent projects, "Agatha's Case: Queen of Diamonds," won the "Best TV Series" award at the NYCTVF film festival in 2021. Vladimir Koyfman also wrote and directed the feature film "Iliana," which was released in 2019.
