Robert Heydon is a Toronto-based filmmaker, producer, and director with over 20 years of experience in film, television, animation, and visual effects. Renowned as a Producer and Executive Producer, he skillfully blends creative vision with innovative production techniques, overseeing projects from concept and financing through to global distribution.
In animation, Heydon co-produced the internationally celebrated children's series Fox & Hare (2019), a 26-episode adaptation of the popular European book series. Commissioned by Ketnet and KRO-NCRV, the show was broadcast in more than a dozen countries, including France, Finland, Poland, Hong Kong, and Québec. His work in this field has established him as a pioneer in cross-border co-productions and financing, optimizing soft money, tax incentives, and international sales.
Heydon’s recent projects as producer and director include Isabelle (2018), featuring Adam Brody and Amanda Crew, which debuted at the Busan International Film Festival and was sold by Lakeshore Entertainment, and O.G. (2018), starring Jeffrey Wright, screened at Tribeca where Wright earned Best Actor, with worldwide distribution by HBO. His executive producing credits include The Crescent (TIFF Midnight Madness 2017) and the popular syndicated series The Pinkertons (2014-2015), a high-budget historical crime drama aired across North America.
Earlier in his career, Heydon produced and directed Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy, adapted from the bestselling novel by the author of Trainspotting, and co-produced Go Further, starring Woody Harrelson, which received the Audience Award Runner-Up at the Toronto International Film Festival. Prior to focusing on long-form storytelling, he directed over 100 music videos and commercials, earning a Juno Award for Best Music Video for Edwin’s "Alive."
A graduate of the Canadian Film Centre for Advanced Film Studies, Heydon’s career exemplifies a blend of artistic creativity and entrepreneurial leadership.
