Shontae Saldaña, born and raised in Sacramento, California, is a versatile actress who made her acting debut on the acclaimed series Without a Trace (2005). Her diverse roles include a tough girl in Strong Medicine (2003-2005), a boxer in Bones (2006), and a school teacher in Shark (2007). She has guest-starred in popular shows like Southland (2011) and CSI: Miami (2010), and portrayed Candice Lee in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2018). Saldaña also starred as Calliope in the YouTube Red series Escape the Night (2018), a postmodern meta-fictional murder mystery. Her national exposure includes a Cingular Wireless TV commercial aired on Telemundo, the world’s second-largest Spanish-language content producer.
Saldaña began acting classes in sixth grade and participated in numerous high school stage productions. In 2002, she co-wrote, directed, and starred in the original play Thin Line Between Love and War, performed at the 45th annual Lenaea Festival, earning front-page coverage in the Sacramento Bee’s Scene Section. She pursued Theatre Arts at California State University, Sacramento, where she appeared in many Playwrights Theatre productions. In 2003, she graced the cover of El Hispano, a widely distributed Northern California newspaper, for her role as Maria in Journey of the Sparrows. She has also trained at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, one of the nation’s oldest and most esteemed acting schools. When not filming, Saldaña enjoys break dancing, salsa, boxing, DJing, rapping, bartending, and scriptwriting.
