Anne Haddy was born in Quorn, South Australia, in 1930. She began her acting career in 1948 on ABC Radio Adelaide. At 23, she moved to the UK to further her acting career and stage training, but the intense competition led her to work at Kellogg's before returning to Australia. Throughout her life, she faced numerous health challenges, including a heart attack in 1979, heart surgeries in 1982 and 1983, stomach cancer, kidney issues in 1996, and a major hip operation. Haddy gained recognition on television through roles in 'Sons and Daughters', 'Prisoner', and 'Playschool', as well as on stage. Her most notable role was Helen Daniels on Grundy TV's 'Neighbours', where she portrayed a glamorous mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and the show's matriarch. From the show's start in 1985, she played a wise and compassionate character who provided support to others. She became the longest-serving cast member in 1993 following Alan Dale's departure and had the opportunity to work alongside her husband, James Condon, who guest-starred as Douglas Blake and Reuben White. Helen Daniels' character often reflected Haddy's own health struggles during her 12 years on the show. In 1997, due to declining health, Haddy took a break from 'Neighbours'. After narrowly surviving stomach cancer that year, she decided to leave the series, and Helen Daniels passed away peacefully with her family in Episode 2,965 in October 1997. Anne Haddy continued to battle health issues and passed away peacefully in a Melbourne hospital in July 1999, with her husband by her side. She was survived by five children and six grandchildren.
