As Head of Pan-English Scripted SVOD TV, Rola Bauer oversees the development, commissioning, and programming of English-language international TV series aimed at Prime Video’s global audience. A two-time Primetime Emmy® nominee and Producers Guild of America (PGA) member, Bauer brings a distinctive approach to programming, having produced numerous acclaimed and nominated international series in collaboration with esteemed global partners. She reports to Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios.
Bauer joined Amazon through the company’s acquisition of MGM, where she previously served as President of International Television Productions. There, she developed and worked on projects such as Harlan Coben’s Shelter, based on the #1 New York Times bestseller, for Prime Video; Billy the Kid, created by Michael Hirst, for MGM+; FROM, created by John Griffin and produced by AGBO and Midnight Radio for MGM+; Last Light, starring Matthew Fox and Joanne Froggatt, in partnership with Peacock, Viaplay Group, MBC, and Stan; The Reunion, adapted from Guillaume Musso’s bestselling novel, in collaboration with France Televisions and Make it Happen Studio; and El Fin del Amor for Prime Video, based on Tamara Tenenbaum’s bestselling book.
A trailblazer in international productions, Bauer was formerly a partner and the creative driving force at STUDIOCANAL TV (previously TANDEM Communications, which she founded in 1999). At Studiocanal, she expanded their TV content offerings, providing full studio services including international co-production strategy, business affairs, finance, and global sales, supporting Studiocanal’s growing network of production companies worldwide. She began her career at Alliance Communications, ultimately serving as President of its subsidiary Alliance International TV, managing multiple international offices from Paris. Later, she moved to Munich to work as a buyer at ProSieben TV Network, overseeing international series and co-production efforts before founding TANDEM.
As Executive Producer, Bauer managed complex co-production series partnerships with multiple networks, including PILLARS OF THE EARTH, CROSSING LINES, TAKE TWO, SHADOWPLAY, and THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH.
She also supervised premium scripted content for Studiocanal’s production companies, including YEARS AND YEARS, WAR OF THE WORLDS, MIDNIGHT SUN, THE LAST PANTHERS, and BELOW THE SURFACE.
On the international co-production front, she played a key role in the development of acclaimed series such as ZeroZeroZero, Harlan Coben’s SAFE—her third Coben collaboration—for Netflix and CANAL+ Group, Julie Delpy’s ON THE VERGE, and Benedict Cumberbatch’s THE CHILD IN TIME.
Bauer has received numerous accolades, including the Medaille d'Honneur for her exceptional contributions to international television, the C21 Editor’s Choice award recognizing her career achievements, and has appeared five times on Variety’s International Women’s Impact Report. In 2011, she earned a Golden Globe nomination for PILLARS OF THE EARTH. The Hollywood Reporter has named her one of the Most Powerful Women in Global Television multiple times, most recently in 2023, and she was included in the 2023 Variety 500 list. Bauer serves on the International Emmys Board (iEmmys) and holds membership in both the PGA and the Primetime Television Academy.
