Brett Rice, born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is the eldest of four siblings. After attending several schools, he was eventually enrolled at Marist Military Academy in Atlanta, followed by a brief stint in the Army. One day, while accompanying a friend to a theater building for an audition, the director invited Brett to try out as well. He secured a role, sparking a deep passion for theater. Over the next five years, he frequented every theater in Atlanta, auditioning for nearly every opportunity. This included a TV pilot for The Catlins (1982), which resulted in a two-year contract. He appeared in The Bear (1984) alongside Gary Busey, and later in the TV movie Poison Ivy (1985), featuring Michael J. Fox, Adam Baldwin, and Nancy McKeon. After a lull in work, Brett’s career took off in the 1990s, with steady roles in TV shows such as I'll Fly Away (1991), In the Heat of the Night (1988), Walker, Texas Ranger (1993), among others. His film credits include Forrest Gump (1994), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Kalifornia (1993), Passenger 57 (1992), From the Earth to the Moon (1998), The Waterboy (1998), and a co-starring role in Remember the Titans (2000) as Coach Tyrell opposite Denzel Washington and Will Patton. Brett also guest-starred on the TV series Sheena (2000) in the episode "Stranded in the Jungle," which aired in 2002. With over 75 credits in television and film and an equal number in theater, he has become a Councilor at Large with SAG, engaging more deeply in the complex politics and negotiations with producers in Los Angeles and New York.
