Matthew Scott Montgomery's breakthrough came in Los Angeles when he played Kendall Parker in Del Shores' 2010 play Yellow, which ran for a year. His performance earned him the Best Featured Performance in a Play at the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, competing against actors like Harry Groener and Chris Pine. He also won Best Featured Actor in a Play at the Backstage Garland Awards, Comedy/Dramatic Performance of the Year at the Stage Scene LA Awards, and received a nomination for Best Performance at the LA Stage Alliance Ovation Awards. During the run, Montgomery was cast in the Disney Channel pilot Shake It Up! and later appeared on Sonny With a Chance/So Random and Austin & Ally. Since then, he has guest-starred on Jane the Virgin, White Famous, Betch, and multiple episodes of Smosh. He featured in two documentary series, Unidentified with Demi Lovato and Dancing with the Devil. Montgomery and Lovato have been close friends since 2011. He reunited with Shores for both a live production and film adaptation of Southern Baptist Sissies, starring opposite Leslie Jordan. Montgomery has gained recognition in Los Angeles theater, appearing in Stage Kiss at the Geffen Playhouse and writing and starring in the play Dead Boys, which was staged at the Celebration Theatre with partial funding from a West Hollywood city grant. He has penned several plays, with his latest, Foursome, currently in development through his theater company IAMA Theatre. His short film, Don't Turn Off the Ghost Light, which he wrote, starred in, and co-directed with Disney Channel co-star Allisyn Snyder, has won multiple festival awards. His first feature film, Howdy, Neighbor!, directed by Snyder through her production company, is in post-production and stars Montgomery alongside Debby Ryan and Alyson Stoner.
