Biografia
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and a graduate of the School of Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, he made his fiction film debut with 12 Horas (2001), which he wrote, directed, and edited. The film won the Audience Choice award at the Chicago Latino Film Festival and received special mentions for Best Narrative and Best New Director at the 2002 Tribeca Film Festival. It was also Puerto Rico's official submission for the Best Foreign Film category at the 2001 Oscars.
His second film, a Spanish production, was a remake of the 1962 film Atraco a las 3 y Media (2003), produced by Pedro Maso. He then directed the drama Bala Perdida (2003), earning the Best Editing award at the Icaro Film Festival in Guatemala. Following this, he directed and edited the television film El Cuerpo del Delito (2005) and co-edited the 2006 film El Cantante, starring Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, directed by Leon Ichaso.
In 2007, he directed and edited Manuela y Manuel, the first Puerto Rican film featuring a gay lead character, as well as Chiquito pero Juguetón, starring the late comedian Luis Raul.
His subsequent feature, Broche de Oro (2012), was a major box office hit and starred the acclaimed actor/director Jacobo Morales.
In 2017, he wrote, edited, and directed OVNI, the Dominican Republic's first science fiction/comedy film, along with the prequel Broche de Oro: Comienzos.
He worked as editor on several feature films, including Ana (2020) with Andy Garcia, Primal (2019) with Nicolas Cage, American Traitor (2021) with Al Pacino, and Force of Nature (2020) with Mel Gibson. He also edited the 2021 television reboot of Fantasy Island featuring Roselyn Sanchez, as well as Bravas (2020), an original YouTube episodic drama.
His latest feature, Daniel El Travieso, which he co-wrote, edited, and directed, is set to premiere in 2023.
He recently joined the Directors Guild of America (DGA) as director for the second season of the prime-time drama Fantasy Island.
