LeGrand Love was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia. From an early age, he was drawn to the arts and creative storytelling, but initially viewed those passions as impractical career pursuits. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for more than two decades as a Submarine Communications Specialist before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer.
While stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, Love began volunteering as a camera operator with Olelo Community Media. That experience reignited his passion for visual storytelling and inspired him to pursue a second career in film and television. He later founded LuvThat Entertainment, LLC, an independent production company that serves as the creative home for his film, television, and media projects.
Seeking a deeper understanding of the entertainment industry, Love enrolled at Columbia College Hollywood in Tarzana, California. During his time there, he wrote, directed, and produced multiple short films while also serving as First Assistant Director on numerous student and independent productions. His work behind the camera helped him develop a well-rounded foundation in filmmaking, production management, and visual storytelling.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, while living in Los Angeles, Love watched an interview with civil rights attorney and Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson. Stevenson’s call to "get proximate" to communities facing persistent challenges left a lasting impression on him. As the nation grappled with social unrest and renewed conversations about racial justice, Love began reassessing how he could use his leadership experience to make a meaningful impact. The interview ultimately inspired him to return to the South and become involved in public education and youth development.
In 2022, Love founded 13.4 Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young people through education, leadership development, media production, and creative expression. Through the foundation, he launched and produced the student-led Hawkeye News broadcast at Hannan Elementary Magnet Academy during the 2024 to 2025 school year. The program provided students with hands-on experience in journalism, broadcasting, public speaking, and digital media production while fostering confidence, teamwork, and communication skills.
Today, Love continues to work across film, television, education, and nonprofit leadership, combining decades of military and leadership experience with a passion for storytelling, mentorship, and community impact. His work reflects a commitment to using media and education as tools to inform, inspire, and create opportunities for future generations.
