Jack Cook (born Jack Andrew Cook on February 28, 1989) is an American film director and filmmaker. His much-anticipated directorial debut, The Private Eye, is scheduled for nationwide theatrical release on February 9, 2024. Cook is also a founder of the entertainment studio Illusion Islands.
Cook was born at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Jack Stevens Cook and Carolyn Marie Cook. He has one younger brother, Bobby Benjamin Cook. He began his entertainment career in the 1990s as an actor with a local theater company in Cincinnati, Ohio. During this time, he advanced his career by joining Ashley Talent Agency, now known as PCG Talent Agency, based in Sharonville, Ohio. Soon after, he was cast in a Procter & Gamble corporate video along with several local and national commercials.
In spring 2007, Cook relocated to New York City to attend The New Actors Workshop, founded by Mike Nichols, George Morrison, and Paul Sills. This two-year conservatory offered a unique curriculum combining Stanislavski-based techniques with Viola Spolin Theater Games. After graduating, Cook began auditioning and joined the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). He appeared in several off-Broadway plays, skit shows, minor television roles, and a local commercial for a heating and air company. To further his career, Cook moved to California in 2011.
In Hollywood, Cook started at the entry level in the entertainment industry and gradually secured principal roles. He has appeared in television shows and TV movies such as Cinnamon Girl, Let's Big Happy, Pretend Time, and others. Cook also starred in numerous short films and corporate videos before ultimately deciding to shift his focus toward directing.
