Biografia
Irish actor Redmond Gleeson, originally named Martin Gleeson, was born in Dublin, Ireland, where he launched his acting career. Raised in an educated and professional family, Gleeson aspired to become an actor from an early age. He drew significant inspiration from James Joyce’s works, the allure of American cinema, and his film hero, Burt Lancaster.
From Ireland, he relocated to Australia, where, as he described it, he was on the verge of dedicating himself to rugby and beer until he earned a scholarship to a university in Ohio. Gleeson seized this chance to study theater arts. After graduating, he moved to Aspen, Colorado, taking on various jobs, including a stint as a dishwasher. Eventually, he worked on the ski slopes, where he met his future wife, Mardiah. While in Aspen, he co-founded and performed with the High Country Players.
In 1968, at age 33, Gleeson and his wife moved from Colorado to Los Angeles, where he vigorously pursued a Hollywood career. After eight years of perseverance, he began landing increasingly significant roles. At 46, he finally starred alongside his idol, Burt Lancaster, in the film Cattle Annie and Little Britches (1980), even teaching Lancaster Irish accents during the production.
In 1971, Gleeson and his wife traveled to Indonesia for a Subud convention. Thirty-six years later, in 2004, they purchased a home there. Eventually, they relocated from Los Angeles to Kalteng, Indonesia, where they currently reside. Gleeson continues to act in film, television, and theater, while he and his wife remain actively involved in their Indonesian community.
