Simon has composed scores for films by some of independent cinema's most unique visionaries, including Danny Boyle's 'Shallow Grave', Alejandro Jodorowsky's 'Santa Sangre', Dario Argento's 'Phenomena', Michael Hoffman's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', Alex de la Iglesia's 'Perdita Durango', and Richard Stanley's 'Hardware' and 'Dust Devil'.
Throughout his career, Simon has earned numerous international awards and nominations, such as two BAFTAs and a Classical Brit Award.
After spending his early years in bands like Advertising and Live Wire, Simon established himself as a highly successful record producer and remixer. In 1982, his production for Italian superstar Renato Zero resulted in one of Italy’s best-selling albums ever, selling an astonishing six million copies. His work with 23 Skidoo on 'Coup' later influenced the Chemical Brothers' 'Block Rockin Beats'. He has also produced, among many others, artists like Elton John, Dolly Parton, Marianne Faithfull, Andrea Bocelli, and Orbital.
As a composer, Simon is renowned for blending electronic sounds with orchestral instruments, covering a wide range of styles and moods since the mid-1980s. His contributions to horror and fantasy films are particularly notable, especially within Italian giallo cinema and movies like Clive Barker's detective horror 'Lord of Illusions'. His work on cyberpunk-influenced films such as 'Hackers' (Ian Softley) and 'Hardware' stands out, where he uniquely merged acoustic slide guitar with deep, ominous synths to craft a highly acclaimed, apocalyptic score, earning him a BAFTA nomination for the Anthony Asquith Award.
Simon has also composed numerous orchestral scores, both melodic and experimental, including 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', 'Photographing Fairies', 'War Zone', 'Tin Man', and 'Jason and the Argonauts'. Recent highlights include scores for 'Johnnt Frank Garrett's Last Word' directed by Simon Rumley and 'Asher' directed by Michael Caton-Jones.
Simon continues to tour extensively worldwide with his band, The And, delivering live performances of his music accompanied by immersive video backdrops.
