Biografia
Blerim Destani was born on April 12, 1981, in Stolberg near Aachen, Germany. He grew up in Tetovo, a town in Macedonia situated at the base of the Sharr mountains. His entire family is of Albanian descent. For the past ten years, Blerim has lived and worked in both Germany and Macedonia. He discovered his passion for acting early on and, driven by ambition, devoted his time and energy to film and acting. At 14, he made his acting debut in the Albanian TV film "Atje ku nuk lind dielli" ("Sun Doesn't Rise There"). While producing short documentaries, he also took acting classes in England.
In 2004, Blerim landed his first major film role, gaining substantial public attention in Southeast Europe by portraying the lead character "Beni" in the Kosovar TV production "Metropolet," directed by Sunaj Raca. This action-packed coming-of-age drama follows young Albanian Beni, who hopes to quickly achieve financial success in Germany. To reach his goal, he leaves his family and friends behind and associates with the gangster Musa. However, the plan fails, and Beni ends up in prison. After several years behind bars, he comes to realize that leaving the past behind is not so simple.
Blerim continued his successful collaboration with renowned director Sunaj Raca in the 2006 film Etjet e Kosovës, which explores the consequences of the Kosovar war on the Albanian population. The film portrays ethnic cleansing and other atrocities that devastated people mentally and physically. The intertwined lives of individuals and families from different regions and social backgrounds form a closely connected narrative. Families search not only for missing children but also for hope and new opportunities. In this role, Blerim powerfully embodies a complex character who must prove himself as a soldier, husband, and father.
Beyond acting, Blerim has a broad interest in filmmaking and has gained experience in directing and producing. He served as associate producer for the internationally acclaimed Macedonian film The Great Water (2004), directed by Ivo Trajkov. In 2005, The Great Water was showcased at numerous prestigious festivals and won several awards.
Currently, Blerim is enhancing his acting skills by taking elocution lessons to prepare for new international film projects in 2006.
