Greg grew up in Los Angeles and was initially shy and nervous. His passion for theatre sparked in ninth grade when his best friend convinced him to audition for the school play. He earned his undergraduate degree from Pitzer College, choosing it mainly to spend as much time in the theatre as possible. There, he studied improv, Kabuki with Leonard Pronko, Corporeal Mime with Thomas Leabhart, and lighting design, fully immersing himself in his love for drama. After graduating, he moved to San Francisco, where his first job was a school tour adaptation of Shakespeare's AS YOU LIKE IT, performing across California—from San Diego to Mt. Shasta—for audiences ranging from kindergartners to agricultural colleges, senior centers, and maximum security prisons.
Soon, he took on varied roles in different productions, from experimental dance, mask, and puppet theatre to intense Clive Barker plays in intimate 50-seat venues, and outdoor Shakespeare performances for thousands. He earned his Equity card at Marin Theatre Company in David Ives’ MERE MORTALS, directed by Albert Takazauckas, and two years later, his SAG card through Disney's THE PRINCESS DIARIES, directed by Garry Marshall; although his role was cut, the paycheck covered his SAG initiation fees. In 2001, Greg enrolled in the one-year postgraduate classical acting program at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, playing lead roles in A WINTER'S TALE, LOVE FOR LOVE, THE CHANGELING, THE SEAGULL, and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM.
Returning to the U.S., he moved to New York, where he describes gaining his "career education" — a mix of early-morning audition lines, juggling full-time jobs, and attending auditions, often without callbacks. Despite the challenges, he starred as Richard III off-Broadway. In 2004, Greg returned to Los Angeles and has remained active in theatre. His credits include The Mark Taper Forum’s award-winning MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM (directed by Phylicia Rashad), understudy roles in THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE and iWITNESS, performances at The Geffen Playhouse, the Laguna Playhouse’s world premiere of Rita Rudner's TICKLED PINK, and Deaf West Theatre where he provided the vocal performance for Oscar winner Troy Kotsur in KRAPPS LAST TAPE and ZOO STORY. He’s also appeared at Theatre @ Boston Court and spent multiple summers performing with the Lake Tahoe and San Francisco Shakespeare Festivals in productions such as MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, COMEDY OF ERRORS, TAMING OF THE SHREW, TWELFTH NIGHT, ROMEO AND JULIET, OTHELLO, and GREATER TUNA. Additionally, he studied improv with The Groundlings.
Greg has worked regularly in commercials, notably as the floating “sad” cloud for Jimmy Dean, the cranky milk man for Silk Almond Milk, and the man who smashed his iPhone with a hammer in a Verizon holiday spot. His television roles have included playing cops in ICARLY, THE PEOPLE VS OJ SIMPSON, FRESH OFF THE BOAT, 9-1-1, DEAD TO ME, I'M DYING UP HERE, and BLACK MONDAY; criminals and unsavory characters in LETHAL WEAPON, JUSTIFIED, KICKIN' IT, TRUE DETECTIVE, and CASTLE—where his Geordie accent was famously called “the worst accent ever.” He’s also portrayed everyday people in AGENT CARTER, NCIS, GOLIATH, THE ROOKIE, MARLON, and GAME SHAKERS.
Greg splits his time between Los Angeles and New York with his wife, Ruthie, and their spoiled dog, Gus, who essentially runs the household. He enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and scuba diving, is a skilled cook, coaches actors, and writes occasionally when inspiration strikes. Though he can still be shy, he’s become much better at hiding it.
